Engineered Austrailian Blackbut
Code: EBB-500
Eucalyptus pilularis, commonly known as blackbutt, is a common and dominant tree of the family Myrtaceae native to southeastern Australia. A large tree, it is identified by the stocking of rough bark, to about halfway up the trunk, above this is white smooth bark. The common name blackbutt refers to the black base of the tree after fires. The town of Blackbutt, Queensland and the nearby Blackbutt Range are both named after the Eucalptus pilularis.
Blackbutt is one of Australia's key hardwoods, renowned for its high quality, ease of regeneration and rapid growth. It has a huge number of applications beyond furniture and joinery, appearing as telegraph poles, railway sleepers and in domestic housing construction; creating an abundance of opportunities for reclaimation.
This fantastic timber is extremely hard and strong but not particularly difficult to work. It features a coarse texture, fairly straight grain, and common small gum veins. Blackbutt is used in the flooring of Parliament House, Canberra.
